Israel to Give $5 Million to Darfur Refugees

Israel is planning to donate five million dollars to refugees from the war-torn Darfur region of western Sudan, officials announced on Tuesday. The funding will come from both the government and private donations.

Suggested plans for transferring aid have been presented to Foreign Ministry Director-General Aharon Abramovitch. Once a plan is chosen and approved by Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, the aid will be sent. The money will be directed through international aid organizations, officials said. When the donation is sent, Israel will become one of the top 10 donors to Darfur refugees.
