The Knesset passed a law Monday that will extend maternity leave by 2 weeks, to 14 weeks. The goal of the law is to allow mothers more bonding time with their new babies. There is a similar law being proposed that will allow new fathers to have time off when a new baby arrives.

The extra 2 weeks of leave will cost the state an estimated NIS 400 Million per year.
