The season's first serious heat wave has peaked, but temperatures will remain higher than usual, receding slightly each day until thunderstorms accompany cooler weather Thursday evening or Friday as far south as Eilat. Showers also are possible on the Sabbath.
Temperatures Monday will reach 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) in Jerusalem, 25 (77 Fahrenheit) in Tel Aviv, where the humidity will be very high, and 38 (100 Fahrenheit) in Be'er Sheva.
On Sunday the thermometer reached 46 degrees (115 Fahrenheit) at the Dead Sea, and is expected to reach 44 (111 Fahrenheit) on Monday.
