Police Clear Australian Billionaire in Olmert Probe

Israeli police visiting Australia have completed questioning billionaire Frank Lowy concerning the probe of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on the sale of the government's share of shares in Bank Leumi. Lowy was not suspected of wrongdoing and was questioned in order to confirm testimony by others in the case.

Police told Lowy that he can visit Israel without fear of further investigations, according to the Hebrew new site NFC, which originally divulged information concerning suspected deals by the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Olmert was acting Finance Minister when he allegedly helped Lowy and Daniel Abrams in bids for the bank. The two men eventually pulled out of negotiations. Abrams also was the buyer of the Prime Minister's Jerusalem house for $2.7 million, which was far above market value.
