MK Pines Protests Olmert; Rutstein Protests Pines
Labor party Knesset Member Ophir Pines launched a sit-in protest across from the Prime Minister’s Office, vowing that his group would stay there until PM Ehud Olmert resigns. Pines called on his fellow party members to join him and told reporters he is working to convince Labor to leave the government if the Prime Minister refuses to quit.
But MK Pines is facing his own protestor. Jerusalemite David Rutstein was also at the scene to demonstrate against the legislator. Rutstein handed out pamphlets to passersby slamming the Knesset member for his part in silencing attempts to question events surrounding the 1995 assassination of then Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin.
On November 11, 1999, MK Pines sent a letter to the Steimatzky bookstore chain, asking the company to ban an English-language Rabin conspiracy theory book written by Barry Chamish. The letter written by MK Pines stated in part, “I request that you act immediately to remove the books from the shelves of your stores.”
