An IDF soldier lost his foot to a land mine on Saturday while on guard duty near the Jordanian border. The soldier, who serves in the Air Force, left his outpost for reasons which are not yet clear and entered a nearby minefield, stepping on a mine. His foot was severed in the resulting blast, and he was transferred to Soroka hospital in moderate condition.
IDF Southern Command Chief Major-General Yoav Galant has appointed a committee to investigate the incident. Initial investigations show that the mine field was clearly marked.
