Deadly Night on the Roads: Accidents Claim 7 Lives
Four Israelis, who were apparently on their way to a vacation in southern Israel or the Sinai, were killed early Friday morning in a head-on collision between their car and a pick-up truck at Goral Junction in the Negev desert. Two other people were seriously wounded. The driver of the car may not have realized he was on a two-directional road, and drove in the left-hand lane.
Supt. Rehavia Omesi, head of the police's Traffic Bureau, said a similar accident had taken place last year in the same spot, and that turning the road into a one-way road will prevent many accidents.
Three people were killed in three other accidents overnight, bringing the past 24 hours' death toll to seven. Traffic accidents kill between 400 and 500 people in Israel every year.
