Peretz Might Jump Ship

Aides to Defense Minister Amir Peretz said he is considering resigning from the government, according to Voice of Israel government radio. He has claimed that the Winograd Committee did not criticize him as harshly as critics have maintained. The panel emphasized that he served in a position in which he has almost no experience.

The Defense Minister, formerly the head of the Histadrut national labor union, previously has declared he will not quit, but he might change is position by declaring that he cannot serve in a government headed by Prime Minister Olmert. The Winograd Committee specifically named him as being responsible for decisions during the Second War in Lebanon last summer.
