100 people, most of them from the local Jewish community, expressed solidarity with Israel on Thursday by buying Israeli products in a local supermarket in Antwerp.
The initiative, by Antwerp’s Forum of Jewish Organisations, was a response to repeated calls for a boycott of Israeli goods by several Belgian NGOs. “This is to show that we support Israel and that the boycott is useless. We want to help Israel rather than boycott it,” Forum Secretary General Diane Keyser told European Jewish Press.
The Jewish organisation chose a supermarket in the center of Antwerp, where various NGOs such as the Palestine Action Platform regularly distribute pamphlets calling for a boycott on Israeli products.
