Hussein Khalil, a senior aide to Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah, said Monday that Hizbullah has rearmed and has “enough weapons to defend Lebanon.” Khalil said that Hizbullah objects to the Lebanese government’s agreement not to allow weapons smuggling from Syria, but said that Hizbullah sees its current weapons as sufficient with or without Syrian aid.

Despite recent violent protests in Beirut, Hizbullah officials claimed that they have no interest in taking power by using force. Hizbullah is ready to hold a referendum on any issue, Khalil said, and will even agree to give up its weapons if the Lebanese people ask it to.
