New Tenders Law Likely to Pass Government Vote
An amended Tenders Law is likely to be approved by a government vote in the Sunday morning cabinet meeting, according to the Haaretz news service.
The amended bill would delegate responsibility for overseeing and approving government contracts to several different ministries, instead of continuing the current policy of allowing the Finance Ministry sole power over approval of tenders.
Accountant-General Yaron Zelicha said he is convinced the amended law will lead to further corruption in government affairs as well as destroy equal opportunity for bidders to win the tenders. Zelcha added that he feared ministries would use their new power to promote favored vendors. Attorney General Menachem Mazuz, however, reportedly supports the bill.
