Nisim Moyale, 37, of Nahariya, was hospitalized Tuesday night after overdosing on mufletas – the traditional sweet cake eaten by Moroccan Jews in the Mimouna celebration. Moyale was taken to the emergency room at the Nahariya Western Galilee Hospital after fainting. He had a weakened pulse and a lowered brain oxygen level.
Moyal told doctors he had eaten about 20 mufletas. He had visited several homes of friends and relatives and had 'tasted' mufletas in all of them. "I felt bad when I got home, but I thought if I slept it would go away," Moyale said. However, in the middle of the night he awoke with severe stomach pain, got out of bed and fainted. His wife called an ambulance.
"They gave me mufletas in every house," Moyale explained. "I felt ashamed to refuse, it's not nice to say no, so I ate."
