In a stormy Knesset meeting on Tuesday, dozens of Holocaust survivors expressed anger and humiliation at Finance Ministry procedures surrounding Holocaust disability payments. Several survivors burst into tears as they discussed the current situation, in which they are forced to prove before a medical board that their injuries were directly caused by the Nazi regime. The average monthly payment for a survivor injured in the Holocaust is 1,040 shekels.

The survivors accused the Finance Ministry, which is responsible for the payments, of cynicism and foot-dragging. The Ministry tries to save money by rejecting legitimate requests for aid, they said. Some called for a boycott of the approaching Memorial Day for the Holocaust and Acts of Bravery, while others wanted to announce that while the world denies the Holocaust, Israel denies the survivors.
