Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik plans to hold a telethon for Members of Knesset, and to allow citizens to call in with their problems. According to the plan, dozens of MKs would take calls from citizens, thus strengthening their connection to the public.

The initiative is still being planned. Itzik hopes to hold the telethon by the summer, and plans to make it an annual event. She hopes to require all MKs to visit a school each year as well.

MKs Benny Elon (NU/NRP) and Yaakov Cohen (UTJ) supported the initiative, and said they hope it will go further. Once a year is not enough, they said. Cohen said that MKs should meet with their constituents at least 30 times a year, and that he meets with the hareidi-religious public 100 times a year, in different locations around the country.
