IDF Reveals Program to Deal with Draft Dodgers Reported: 10:37 AM - Apr/05/07
(IsraelNN.com) The IDF revealed a new program to deal with draft dodgers on Thursday. IDF officials plan to change the existing situation, in which young people can avoid army service by claiming to suffer from mental illness. Army officials estimate that over half of those released due to mental illness are completely healthy, and are simply looking for an easy way to avoid service.
Beginning in May, those wishing to avoid service due to mental problems will have to meet with a special committee. The committee will work to find an appropriate setting for them within the army, and will try to avoid issuing a full release from service. Those who are found to have faked mental illness will receive a dishonorable discharge, which will prevent them from receiving future benefits that are given only to discharged soldiers. ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
