(IsraelNN.com) The Beth Israel congregation in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has raised over $84,500 for Magen David Adom (Israel’s Red Cross) in response to weekly harassment from anti-Israel protestors. The fundraising drive began years ago, when protestors began to picket Shabbat prayer services on a weekly basis.

The protestors claim that the synagogue is an appropriate place to protest Israel, saying that the synagogue, which has repeatedly called for peace, has not disassociated from Israel completely. The approximately one dozen protestors have never been arrested for harassment, although one worshipper was arrested for trying to stop them from filming him. One of the protestors signs reads “Israel Lobby Inside,” another claimed that Jewish prayers should be disrupted, because Jews “pray for genocide.”

Local non-Jewish religious leaders have condemned the weekly protests, saying that people all faiths should have the right to practice their religion in peace. A local Christian man recently started the counter-protest group “Worshippers Without Harassment,” which now has over 250 supporters.
