The director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) appealed to the Palestinian Authority government to assist in securing the release of kidnapped journalist Alan Johnston. 

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reporter was snatched from his car outside the news agency’s Gaza City offices three weeks ago. His whereabouts and condition are unknown.
