Lawyer and Land of Israel activist Elyakim Haetzni praised Monday's return to Homesh on Thursday, saying that Homesh will save Tel Aviv from being the target of Katyusha rockets. “The sleeping orange giant woke up in Homesh,” said Haetzni, referring to those who opposed the 2005 expulsion of Jews from Gaza and Northern Samaria, who are often referred to as the “orange camp.”
Haetzni said the return to Homesh showed a turn away from traditional leadership as represented by the Yesha Council. Haetzni criticized the Yesha Council, which he says has traditionally cooperated with the government, and by doing so has “given a green light to the Arab enemy and those who hate Israel.”
The most important achievement of Homesh activists, according to Haetzni, was to protect Israel from the danger of a potential enemy state on Israeli territory, run by the Palestinian Authority. Such a state would mean the destruction of Israel, Haetzni said. The actions of the Homesh activists showed the politicians and army that the establishment of such a state is impossible, he said.
