The government announced Tuesday night that Israel Police will expel Jewish activists who refuse to leave the site of the destroyed community of Homesh on Wednesday, according to Army Radio. Defense Minister Amir Peretz ordered security forces to use force if necessary.

Residents of the former northern Samaria community and thousands of supporters marched to the site on Monday, equipped with tents and sleeping bags. Activists said they would stay at the site for as long as possible, and will return as often as possible until they are able to rebuild the community.

The Jews of Homesh were expelled from their homes in 2005 with three other northern Samaria communities and more than 20 others in the Gush Katif region of Gaza as part of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza.
