Many Arabs in foreign countries would choose to remain where they are despite Arab League and Palestinian Authority (PA) demands that Israel allow them to immigrate to the Jewish state, according to a report in the International Herald Tribune.

The so-called "right of return" demands that about three million Arabs in foreign countries be allowed to live in Israel because they are descendants of about half a million Arabs who fled during the War of Independence in 1948. Most of them left Israel under the leadership of Arab nations that told them they could return after a quick defeat of the fledgling Jewish nation.

The Herald Tribune quoted, Hanin Abu Rub, a web content manager in Jordan, "When people think, 'Is it possible for us to go back?' deep inside they now know they are not going back."

The right of return "is my right, which I have inherited from my parents and grandparents," said Maha Bseis, 39, whose family comes from Jerusalem. "But if I have the right, I will not return because I was born and grew up here."
