Knesset Extends 'Citizenship Law'
The Knesset voted Wednesday in favor of extending the Citizenship Law, which prevents the naturalization of people from the Palestinian Authority through marriage to Israelis. The law will now be in force until July 2008.
The law has also been broadened and now bans naturalization through marriage for Syrian, Iranian, Lebanese and Iraqi citizens as well. In addition, it was decided to establish a committee to consider specific requests of citizenship on humanitarian grounds.
