Olmert: International Community Won’t Accept PA Gov’t Reported: 10:10 AM - Mar/18/07
(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told cabinet members Sunday morning that he believes world leaders will not accept the new Palestinian Authority unity government which was signed into office on Saturday.
“We expect that the international community will not be misled by the creation of the coalition government,” he said, adding that Israel considers the new coalition uniting the Fatah and Hamas terrorist factions “very problematic.” Fatah has until now been considered a moderate force in the PA, and its Chairman, Mahmoud Abbas, promised months ago not to join any PA government that would not recognize the State of Israel. Nonetheless, the new government, which is chaired by Abbas, has reiterated its previous refusal to recognize the Jewish State. “We will not be able to pursue contacts with the government or its members,” Olmert said. He called on the international community to join with Israel in rejecting the new coalition. Norway was the first country to announce its support for the new PA government. ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
