A group of approximately 20 reporters protested in Gaza on Saturday. The reporters were protesting the kidnapping of their colleague Alan Johnston of the BBC, who was abducted six days ago by an anonymous group of armed men. BBC officials admitted recently that they have no information on Johnston’s whereabouts or state of health.

Johnston’s fellow reporters called for his release and praised his coverage of events in Gaza. He wrote as if he were a local and not a foreign journalist, they said.

Johnston is the latest of dozens of foreign reporters to be kidnapped in Gaza. The hostages have for the most part been released unharmed, although at least two were forced to convert to Islam. Palestinian Authority officials have asked the kidnappers to release Johnston, saying that their actions are hurting the Arab cause.
