Strike in 150 Bedouin Preschools Reported: 13:19 PM - Mar/16/07
(IsraelNN.com) 150 private Bedouin preschools plan to strike beginning on Sunday. Daycare workers are striking due to a drop in their salaries caused by the Education Ministry’s refusal to transfer funds to local daycare organizations. The strike will affect 4,500 children and their families.
Education Ministry officials explained that the funds were withheld due to the illegal use of private homes as daycare centers. A daycare worker needs a special permit in order to use a private home as a center, which most of the Bedouin workers do not have. Officials explained that the daycare organizations have known about the violations of policy for some time, and have chosen to ignore them. When the violations stop, they said, funding will be renewed. ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
