Prof. Rivka Carmi, the new president of Ben Gurion University, has written in the institution's Hebrew quarterly Academia that she makes it a practice to shake the hands of leftist students who protest against Israel's "conquest" of Judea and Samaria, according to an article written in the New York Jewish Press by an American parent who has one son serving in the Israeli army.
The writer, Allyson Rowen Taylor, added that Prof. Carmi stated she would not take the same action if nationalists demonstrated support of the ideology that Judea and Samaria were restored to Israel after 2,000 years of foreign occupation.
Taylor also noted that Ben Gurion University's faculty members include the most extreme leftists of all Israeli universities, and some faculty members openly declare that the Jewish state be replaced by a bi-national country.
