Ex-Israel Envoy to U.S. Says Saudi Plan 'Suicidal' (IsraelNN.com) Zalman Shoval, former Israeli Ambassador to the United States, said that the Saudi peace initiative is a "recipe for the destruction of Israel." The plan, originally drawn up at the Arab League in 2002, essentially established the same conditions as those listed by Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, in return for recognition of Israel by the Arab League.
Shoval said that the proposal's demands that Israel allow millions of Arabs from foreign countries to settle in Israel and that the government surrender the Golan Heights and Jerusalem would bring about the end of the Jewish state. Israeli leaders previously have dismissed the Saudi plan as unrealistic, but Defense Minister Amir Peretz and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have said in the past several months that it could be a basis for negotiations. ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
