Police Thwart Beauty Pageant Murder
Police have managed to thwart the attempted murder of a Druze woman who entered the Miss Israel beauty pageant. Cousins Jalal and Zayed Hammoud were planning to kill contestant Angelina Fares, who they accused of tarnishing Druze honor.
Fares, who is 18, decided to drop out of the competition on Monday following repeated threats on her life. Most of the threats were made by residents of her hometown of Sajur, which is predominantly Druze. Faras apologized for upsetting the Druze community, and explained that she never intended to dishonor her village.
