Strike at Bank of Israel To Halt Foreign Funds Transfer

Workers at the Bank of Israel have called for a general strike on Tuesday "until further notice." The bank has demanded that workers return wages and benefits that were paid in violation of the law. The workers' union maintains that "every shekel was paid according to agreements and according to law" and that the bank repeatedly demands concessions after agreements are reached.

The strike will halt transfer of foreign currency, prevent establishing an official exchange rate and also will force a stop in stock exchange trading. If the work stoppage continues more than two or three days, automatic teller machines will be without cash.
