A senior officer in the Israeli Navy said Sunday that he was certain Navy ships had prevented an attempt to smuggle arms into Gaza Saturday night. The behavior of the three boats that crossed over to Egypt and returned to Gaza was "not innocent," he said, especially in light of the fact that they did not stop after being fired upon.
The officer also said the Navy continues to take steps against the possibility that Cpl. Gilad Shalit's abductors may try to transfer him from Gaza to Egypt through the sea. "There was acute apprehension regarding this when he was abducted," he said, "and the concern continues today."
