Poll: Israel, Iran Most Negatively Viewed Countries

A new survey commissioned by the BBC World Service and conducted by GlobeScan and the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) at the University of Maryland indicates that Iran and Israel are the two countries that the world views most negatively, with over 50% of respondents having a negative attitude toward each. The United States and North Korea followed as the next most-negatively viewed countries. The EU, Canada, and Japan were most positively viewed.

Steven Kull, Director of PIPA, stated that the survey found that people “tend to look negatively on countries whose profile is marked by the use or pursuit of military power”.

The survey polled over 26,000 people in twenty-five countries in late 2006. The countries included eight European countries and six Muslim countries.
