The Tartman affair took on a (melo)dramatic note as MK Esterina Tartman (Yisrael Beiteinu) said that a weaker person than her could have killed herself in a situation like the one she finds herself in. Tartman told NFC that the media had "completely twisted" the facts about her and caused her severe damage.

"People who are not as strong as I could have ended their lives (in this situation). I'm beginning to understand Ofer," she said, in a reference to Labor government minister Avraham Ofer, who was accused of corruption and committed suicide in 1977. The allegations against Ofer were never proven and his reputation has been rehabilitated posthumously.

"I hope Esterina won't hurt herself," Tartman's party boss Avigdor Lieberman when asked for a reaction to Tartman's words. "She said these things in a moment of weakness," he explained.
