The Lebanese Army announced Wednesday afternoon that it had fired at an Israeli UAV at 10:40 today. The UAV had been flying over an area south of Tyre.
Lebanese eyewitnesses said IAF combat jets had carried out low altitude sorties over extensive areas of southern Lebanon.
A spokesman for the UNIFIL observer force confirmed the Lebanese Army had fired shots from a mobile anti-aircraft gun. IAF jets occasionally fly over southern Lebanon and the Bekaa valley in eastern Lebanon. UNIFIL has said that these flights are violations of Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war in Lebanon, and Israel says it will continue carrying out the flights in order to monitor and try to stem the flow of weapons from Syria to Hizbullah.
