Court Petitioned To Delay Appointment of Police Chief (IsraelNN.com) The watchdog Ometz [Courage] organization has petitioned the High Court to delay the appointment of Israel Prisons Service Commissioner Ya'akov Ganot as new police commissioner. The appeal wants Public Security Minister Avi Dichter (Kadima) to explain why he appointed him. Ganot is to replace current police chief, Moshe Karadi, who quit Sunday evening after the Zeiler Commission report named him and others for poor management and corruption in the department.
Attorney General Menachem Mazuz criticized Minister Dichter for the appointment because Ganot in the past was indicted on charges of bribery and fraud. The courts acquitted him, but Mazuz noted that Ganot carries a reputation surrounded by doubts. ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
