Rice-Abbas News Conference Cancelled
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas cancelled a news conference planned for Sunday. The two are still scheduled to meet Sunday afternoon in anticipation of the three-way summit with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert set to take place Monday in Jerusalem.
The cancellation comes after Abbas bluntly informed American envoy David Welch Saturday that the world will have to accept the new PA coalition government as is, “take it or leave it.”
The new government, which came in the wake of a unity deal hammered out in Mecca between Abbas’s Fatah faction and the leading Hamas terrorist faction, does not require the new government to fulfill international demands to recognize Israel, renounce terrorism or honor past international agreements.
