Clinton Warns Against Circumventing Congress on Iran
New York Senator and Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton warned President Bush against attacking Iran without Congressional approval. Clinton’s speech to the Senate came in response to Bush’s assertion that the Iranian government is supplying Iraqi insurgents with deadly weapons, an assertion that the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad denies.
Clinton, who voted in 2002 to authorize
military force in Iraq, specifically noted that an attack on Iran would not be considered an expansion of the war in Iraq. Rather, it would require separate approval. Clinton is trying to gain support for her presidential candidacy amongst the increasingly anti-war Democratic party.
