(IsraelNN.com) Meretz leader Prof Yossi Beilin and Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas met secretly in Jordan several days ago and worked out a deal to be presented to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the Hebrew newspaper Ma'ariv reported.
Abbas told Beilin that Hamas did not object to his negotiating with Israel. The first step of the plan is a total cease fire to be followed by negotiations on the basis of the American roadmap plan. The next step would be submission of an agreement to a PA referendum. "Hamas will object to any agreement that I bring but will respect the voice of the people," Abbas was reported to have said.
Previous cease fire accords, such as last year's Sharm el-Sheikh accord, have not been honored by various PA elements.
