Originally from Petersburg, Virginia, Ben Packer moved to Israel in 1999, where he served in the IDF's Givati Brigade in the Gaza Strip. Ben served as a Rabbi on campus at Univ. of North Carolina and at Duke Univ. Ben now serves as Director of the Jerusalem Heritage House (www.heritagehouse.org.il) and Co-Director of Young Jewish Conservatives (www.youngjewishconservatives.org). He lives in the Old City of Jerusalem with his wife and 6 children....

There's something that has been bothering me for a long time and a recent article in the "Forward" (a total garbage publication) caused me to feel that now was the time to address it. (see the article here, subsequent articles here and here)

This past week, a group of anti-Israel activists traveled to the Biblical (read: Jewish) City of Hevron in an attempt to strengthen the Arab Muslim presence and weaken that of the Jews. Of course this kind of anti-semitism goes on in Hevron every day, but this group is slightly different in that they claim to be Jewish and to be following Jewish values (the second part would be hilarious if it wasn't so despicably fraudulent and evil. and don't forget that the muslim head of J Sreet U. was there).Their immediate goal was to clean out a trash-filled area for use for anti-Israel activity. Their larger goal was to show that there exist liberal Jews who support the persecution and potential ethnic cleansing of the Jewish Community of Hevron (G-d forbid!).

To quote the article in the "Forward":

"While the West Bank is a major activist magnet, the Center for Jewish Non-Violence protest was a unique effort because of its Jewish theme. The activists maintained that it was the largest explicitly Jewish direct action in the West Bank in solidarity with Palestinians to date, a reflection of the growing critique of Israel among young Jewish liberals."

"A reflection of the growing critique of Israel among young Jewish liberals"? I'm calling bs!

And here's why: its bs! First of all, they ain't all so young. Peter Beinart is 45 and there are clearly folks older than him in the pictures they posted! Second of all, there ain't that many of them - they claim 45. Now, here's the real kicker: There have been many hundreds of young non-observant Jewish college and high school students in Hevron this summer. (I personally have brought more than 3 times as many as this group of misfits!)  It stands to reason based on compelling statistics that many of them are liberal. However they all came to support the Jewish Community, to connect to the Jewish history and to thank the Israeli soldiers - by the hundreds!!! And, of course, this is not even counting all the observant Jewish trips that visit by the thousands. They may not be so liberal (Thank G-d!), but they are actually young! And their numbers are growing, growing and growing!!!

This specific pathetic attempt actually exposes a much larger phenomenon - the strident lie that support for Israel among Jews (whether young or old) is decreasing. ITS NOT TRUE! It is true that these irrelevant "activists" are often louder on social media and successful in utilizing the overtly liberal media to seem more prominent and widespread than they are, but that's as far as it goes. J-Street doesn't represent the Jewish Community any more than "Jews for J" does. They are both numerically freaks and philosophically bankrupt.

This doesn't mean there isn't more that can be done. More trips need to come to Hevron. All Synagogue trips should go to Hevron. Federation trips should go to Hevron. Yeshivas and Seminaries should go to Hevron. Birthright trips should go to Hevron. AIPAC trips should go to Hevron. (Of course ZOA already does!)  MASA programs should go to Hevron (without hearing from the terrorists and their allies like some groups currently do).

The Jewish People love Hevron and love the Jewish Community and Israeli soldiers there. No bs article by the Forward can alter that glaring reality.

Another gem from the article:

"Beinart called for direct Jewish action in the West Bank in a 2014 Haaretz column."

It could be that his target audience simply didn't hear his "call", BUT IT IS MORE LIKELY THAT HIS TARGET AUDIENCE DOESN'T EXIST!!!

G-d willing, soon many more Jews will move into the recently purchased houses in Hevron and these freaks will be relegated to watching, crying and blabbering a poorly performed rendition of "We shall not be moved" from their cozy apartments on the Upper West Side. A difference they are not making.

"Hevron, me'az u'le'tamid. Hevron shelanu, b'zechut Avoteinu"
