The writer is a leading American pro-Israel activist who sponsors and coordinates many Zionist events. He is clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine (Gastroenterology & Liver Diseases) at the Einstein School of Medicine as well as a practicing physician.

On January 3rd, on his very successful Fox TV Show Mike Huckabee announced he would be ending his six year run to "explore" running for the Presidency.

No one gives up a Fox gig worth millions of dollars unless he is very serious about higher pursuits. Mike Huckabee would not leave Fox just to be one of a slew of Republican Candidates. He seriously feels he can win and I happen to agree with him. In 2008 he surprised everyone on a shoestring budget and finished in second place to Senator John McCain.

He won Iowa right off the bat. He won the South. He was honored with speeches at the 2008 and 2012 National Republican Conventions. He has a "recognition factor" higher than any other Republican Potential Candidate out there. Former President Bill Clinton fears Mike Huckabee the most of all the potential Republican candidates. They know each other well from their time together  in Arkansas. Bill Clinton has told close associates, "keep a close eye on that man"-referring to Mike Huckabee.

Clinton is fully aware of how deft Huckabee is on his feet. Very few can match his sense of humor and very few can match his "likability" factor. Mort Klein called him "Reaganesque". Jonah Goldberg writing in the New York Post touting Jeb Bush also compared Huckabee to Reagan,'' "Much as Ronald Reagan did, Huckabee annoys many of his critics because he refuses to live up to liberal stereotypes. He's neither bitter, nor cranky, and he's often wittier than the very detractors who think big city liberals have a monopoly on political wit. "I'm a conservative", he famously said, "but I'm not mad at everybody over it." "  To his detractors who criticize his Evangelical background, most people are not aware that Winston Churchill had a similar background as a staunch Fundamentalist Christian.

I can see Mike Huckabee becoming another Winston Churchill. One thing for sure Israel will have its greatest friend ever in the White House. It would be a welcome relief after eight years of Obama. I believe America is ready to go back to its Judeo/Christian Roots after the Obama juggernaut. America is full of pendulum swings. It is how Obama got elected in the first place.

It is also how Reagan got elected after the bruising Carter years. The Republican Primaries are stacked in Huckabee's favor with many Southern States holding Primaries early. If Huckabee repeats what he did in 2008 in the early going, he will be unstoppable the rest of the way this time around. What is most impressive about Mike Huckabee is that everyone who has met him knows him to be a real Mensch. It is rare to see in Politics.

He told Cindy Adams, "I governed the Bluest state. I know how things work. It's reasoning together, not demonizing the other side. " He could only accomplish this feat if he garnered support and respect from both sides of the aisle. Mike Huckabee has a good chance of winning the Republican nod. He also has a reasonable chance of becoming President. The next 21 months should be very interesting.
