Benedict and Tzippi: A Fair Comparison?
David RubinDavid Rubin is former mayor of Shiloh, Israel. He is founder and president...
Benedict Arnold was a general who originally fought for the American Continental Army but defected to the British Army, thereby earning for himself the dishonorable title as the prototype traitor.
While not actually defecting to a foreign army, Justice Minister Tzippi Livni's recent pow-wow with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has now been revealed to be a clear act of disobedience to the orders of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. According to the latest reports, Netanyahu clearly told her that to meet with the leader of the Fatah-Hamas unity government would be in direct contradiction to the recent Israeli Cabinet decision to break off all contact with the PA leadership, which has chosen partnership with Hamas over peace with Israel.
To meet with the leader of the enemy that has been responsible for the murder and wounding of thousands of Israelis, and to do so in violation of the Cabinet decision seems to be a treasonous act. Are we afraid to say the word "traitor" when a leading coalition politician shows a strange passion for cavorting with the enemy?
