Wildfire (Chanukah 5771/2010)
 
Conflagration in the Carmel!
Ancient forests a living hell!
Charred trees smoking the sky black and gray
 
Hear their sound!
Ironies abound!
The northern inferno prompts careful reflection:
 
Elijah once called down prophetic fire
Upon the soaked altar atop the mount
Outdoing Baal’s pagan priests between lofty evergreens
 
Chanukah candles annually commemorate
Triumph over Hellenism
This year the Hebrew was grateful the Greek helped douse the flames
