Originally from Petersburg, Virginia, Ben Packer moved to Israel in 1999, where he served in the IDF's Givati Brigade in the Gaza Strip. Ben served as a Rabbi on campus at Univ. of North Carolina and at Duke Univ. Ben now serves as Director of the Jerusalem Heritage House (www.heritagehouse.org.il) and Co-Director of Young Jewish Conservatives (www.youngjewishconservatives.org). He lives in the Old City of Jerusalem with his wife and 6 children....

It would appear from all polls that Eli Yishai's "Yachad" party has very little chance of receiving enough votes to enter the Knesset at this time. It would also appear from earlier reports that a deal was in place for Eli Yishai to become a minister in the next coalition government with the "United Right" party. That deal was reportedly sabotaged by Aryeh Deri of Shas. However, now the Deri finds himself in the midst of being indicted (once again), it would appear that the same deal should be able to still work - not right now, but in the near future.

Far be it from me to instruct HaRav  HaGaon Mazuz on what to do, but it would seem that this is the way to go. It appears that Eli Yishai himself is hinting at it now as well (here). I would implore the "right-wing" community to show patience and sensitivity to Eli Yishai's current predicament. In the end, we'll all be together and victory will be everyone's.
