The murder of two children of tender age and the mortal wounding of a ten-year-old, and others who suffered injuries, as a result of a Kassam missile fired on S'derot, in southern Israel, is another disaster for Israel and its civilian population. When will this government properly respond to such unprovoked attacks? When will this government take the necessary action to protect its civilians, as it claims is its highest priority? Sadly, it has utterly failed up to now, because it has basically taken the wrong approach. It destroys only individual homes of terrorists involved, rather than involving the entire Arab community to meet its responsibilities.

The Arab community in Gaza is responsible for all that has occurred with regard to these missile attacks on Gush Katif and southern Israel. The Arabs are secretly overjoyed that the terrorists are doing what they are doing. But even if they are not happy due to the use by Hamas and others of these weapons of death and destruction, they must get "involved" to prevent the reign of death emanating from Gaza.

The fact is that there is a very easy solution to this serious problem, which should have been implemented long ago. Our planes should fly over all of Gaza and drop tens of thousands of warnings in Arabic, advising the residents that if another missile or mortar is fired from there, the houses of the entire community from where it is fired will be destroyed by bombs and air attacks. We seem to be able to pinpoint from where these missiles are coming. The Arabs in these communities, which heretofore have taken no action whatsoever, must do so in order to save their own homes and property. It may be collective punishment, but it is punishment well deserved.

Only when the Arab community is prepared to take the necessary action to prevent missiles and mortars from being fired from Gaza will there be a quick end to this problem. The action taken by Ariel Sharon's government to date has not been effective.

Moreover, the current government policy has been immoral in that it fails to prevent injury to its own populace. The mounting deaths, destruction and mortally wounded, continues unabated. No normal government would have refrained from taking retaliatory action for such a long time. However, if Israel gives advance notice to the Arabs of its intentions, it is adhering to the highest moral standards.

That should bring an end to the missile and mortar attacks. But if it doesn't, it is vital that we actually carry out what we said we would do. The Arabs in Gaza must realize the consequences of allowing Hamas and others to operate in their midst, in the way they presently do. Only then will we get the desired results - a complete cessation of such attacks upon Jews wherever they are located, including Gaza. Gaza is an integral part of the land the Almighty promised to the Jewish people as an everlasting inheritance.
