Israel's loneliness is a tragedy
Israel's loneliness is a tragedy

151 votes against Israel, just 2 in favor. This is the average of votes during the recent resolutions just approved at the United Nations. The world gathered in its most important assembly to make the Jews and their state a scapegoat, to turn them into executioners and a cursed country, a negative emblem and a villain of the international community, although it is the only experiment in 70 years that in that region has achieved all the values that we cherish as Westerners.

The UN Human Rights Council in ten years approved 68 resolutions against Israel, a liberal democracy, and 67 against the rest of the world, most against dictatorships.

It is like Hitler who thought that all Europe’s troubles could be solved by cleansing the continent of its Jews.

All the European votes, semi-failed states in their identity and cultural cohesion, at the UN have gone against Israel, including my country, Italy. For years, liberal circles in the West have led a campaign of instigation against Israel. Much of the media do not hesitate mendaciously to define Israel's behavior towards the Palestinian Arabs in general, and Gazans in particular, as "genocide", "crimes against humanity" and "intentional assassination of children and civilians".

Slogans against Zionism, Israel and the Jews are now considered normal and just in the civilized and enlightened circles. Israel is constantly presented as the greatest monster on earth. Israel has become the eternal culprit. The media shows only and relentlessly a repertoire of images of bombs and victims in Gaza. Images of Israeli children crouching in shelters in Sderot and Ashkelon are not fit for the Western audience. It is sad to see Europe again obscured by the hostility towards the Jewish people growing within it.

Europe is secluded in a corner, sedentary and wealthy, unable to act and think, risking becoming a subservient peninsula of the Middle East in chaos.

As the British say, it's never as dark as before dawn.

Israel has had to fight to survive every moment since its creation, but it has become one of the greatest countries in the world. But the "greatness" of Israel is not in its geographical dimensions, but in the achievements in all the fields - cultural, scientific, political, social - that the West say to cherish. The solitude, the isolation of the Jewish state, has a tragicity, a strength and a dignity that always strike me.

I throw myself into a forecast: in 2048, Israel will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a smile, while many of the European countries that today vote against the Jewish enclave in the Middle East will be unrecognizable.
