The writer is Director of Overseas Programming of Yeshivat Otniel, where he studied when it was established over 25 years ago and has an M.A. degree from Touro College. He made Aliyah to Israel with his family in 1974, is chairman of the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation.-A general name for the Book of Judges could be "The People of Israel Striving for Leadership"
The book, second in the section of the Tanach called "The Early Prophets", tells about the Israelites attempting to organize their tribal and national entities after the deaths of Moses and Joshua.
Surrounded by enemies, lacking a central ruler, they were led by the various heroes - Samson, Gideon and others - who took charge when the Jewish people were threatened by neighborhing forces.
