The Book of Joshua describes the conquest and settling of the Land of Israel by Joshua, who took over the leadership of the Israelites upon Moses' death.
Moses was punished by G-d and did not enter the Holy Land. The story is related in the Torah reading for this Shabbat, Chukat.
Joshua was his loyal pupil and having led the battle against Amalek, an experienced warrior.
In addition, having been one of the two spies, out of 12, who brought back good tidings after spying out the Holy Land, he was also a fearless man of truth.
