The Super Bowl may have come and gone, but sticky chicken wings are one of those timeless foods which need no excuses.

So go on, indulge yourself:

  • 3 lbs. chicken wings
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 (12 oz.) can Coca-Cola
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 gloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp. corn starch
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).

Place oven rack in the middle of the oven.

Arrange cooling racks over baking sheets, lined with foil.

Prepare wings:

Separate flats from drumettes.

In large bowl, mix wings, oil, garlic powder, onion powder until all wings evenly coated.

Lay wings in a single layer on cooling racks.

Bake until wings are crispy (approx. 45 mins), making sure to rotate baking sheets halfway through.

Prepare sauce:

After first 15 mins of baking, mix Coca Cola, brown sugar, chopped onion and garlic, and soy sauce over a medium-to-high heat. Bring to boil and simmer until mixture reduced by half (approx. 20 mins).

Use fine sieve to strain out onion and garlic, then return sauce to the stove.

Mix in corn starch, one spoon at a time, and heat until thickened (approx. 5 mins).

Season with salt and pepper.

Remove chicken wings from oven and toss with sauce while still hot.
