532 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Israel in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday night.

This marks just the second time since April 9 that the number of infections is greater than 460.

According to the data, 448 new cases were diagnosed between midnight and 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The number of coronavirus tests remained very high at 16,990, but so was the positive test rate: 2.6%. This is the highest positive rate in the last week.

The number of active patients reached 5,796, the highest since May 4. The number of those who are hospitalized has gone down slightly and currently stands at 189 patients.

The death toll remains at 308 and the number of cases on respirators rose by one to 28.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Knesset approved the first reading of a bill that would allow the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) to track coronavirus carriers.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Benny Gantz ordered the State to prepare additional “Coronavirus Hotels” for patients and individuals unable to self-quarantine.

The hotels will be ready to operate within 48 hours of the order being signed into action.
