Paraguay announced Wednesday that it intends to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, becoming the third country to do so after the United States and Guatemala.

The announcement by Paraguay's foreign ministry comes days ahead of the US embassy's relocation on May 14 and the relocation of Guatemala's embassy on May 16.

It was reported this week that Outgoing Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes intends to visit Israel by the end of the month to open an his country's embassy in Jerusalem.

In March, both Paraguay and Honduras said they were ready to move their embassies to Jerusalem.

Last month, Cartes confirmed his decision, vowing to move the embassy before the end of his term.
