Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Sunday that Hamas bears full responsibility for the riots on the Gaza Strip border.

"All the demonstrators near the security fence in the Gaza Strip receive salaries from Hamas," Liberman said in an interview with Reshet Bet. "Those who try to break through the border are members of the military wing of Hamas."

Regarding the journalist killed during the riots, Liberman said, "There are no innocent people in the Gaza Strip. There are no protesters there. Hamas has used both journalists and ambulances to carry out terror attacks dozens of times. Whoever flies a drone over IDF forces - we will not take any chances. We warned everyone in advance. We gave warnings in Arabic, Hebrew and English. Whoever endangers his life does so at his own risk.”

In the interview, Liberman claimed that the international attack against Israel was hypocritical.

"This weekend, hundreds of people in Syria, including dozens of children and women, were killed, and I did not hear the UN secretary-general and we did not see the Security Council and the Arab League meeting," the defense minister said. "You have to understand the environment in which we’re living."

According to the defense minister, "There are no calls for peace at these demonstrations. No one spoke about economics and coexistence. All the speeches are about the destruction of the State of Israel and the return of the refugees to Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jaffa."
