The World Zionist Organization (WZO) on Wednesday evening held a celebration on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem marking the 120th anniversary of the First Zionist Congress, which was held in Basel in 1897.

The celebration included dance performances, Israeli songs which were performed using new and innovative arrangements, videos from around the world, and musical performances by well-known Israeli singers, including Roni Dalumi and Idan Amedi.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said, "Herzl is the modern day Moses who knew how to lead his people. He had the genius as a statesman to act decisively for the sake of the Jews. We must be proud of our achievements. Israel is a rising world power."

WZO chair Avraham Duvdevani said that "the World Zionist Organization is excited to hold this important Zionist event on the 120th anniversary of the first Jewish Congress in Basel. Zionism does not end here. We must continue with the Zionist enterprise, which is the basis of our existence as a state and a nation. We in the World Zionist Organization will continue to preserve and nurture the vision of Zionism in the future both in the State of Israel and around the world."
